Combined therapy for the cessation of addictive behaviors in drug addicts of a rehabilitation center in Honduras
Main Article Content
Abstract
The objective of this study was to determine the effects of a combined therapy program on the metabolic profile, physical condition and psychological variables of subjects with addictive behaviors (drugs). The program lasted 3 months and was carried out with 11 drug addicts admitted to the ELIASIB rehabilitation center (Honduras). A pre-experimental design was used with a non-probabilistic purposive sample. Stimuli were applied to the participants through aerobic and strength exercise, psychological and spiritual therapy to measure the effects on addictive behavior. The results show that 100 % of the participants had feelings of shame for past thefts, 81.8 % expressed a need for security and affection, and 27 % reflected traits of severe mental disorder. It was determined that 27.3 % of the patients had anemia and urinary tract infection; 3 participants presented arterial hypertension, thus showing positive changes after the intervention program. It can be concluded, therefore, that this combined plan showed improvements on the quality of life, physical and psychoemotional health, in turn, it was possible to control blood pressure in the participants in this research, as well as problems of myalgia and arthralgia.
