Somatotype and explosive strength: key to sports performanc

Abstract
This study analyzes the relationship between body somatotype and explosive strength to understand how morphological characteristics influence sports performance. A systematic literature review was conducted, including studies published between 2010 and 2025, covering more than 27 investigations from diverse geographical contexts. The findings suggest that mesomorphic athletes excel in disciplines requiring explosive power, while ectomorphs show advantages in endurance events. However, evidence also shows that personalized training and nutrition can mitigate the disadvantages associated with other somatotypes. A growing trend is identified towards a more adaptive and flexible view of sports performance, where somatotype is seen as a starting point rather than a limiting factor. The integration of genetics, environmental conditions, and targeted interventions allows for the maximization of each athlete's potential.
